BKK Street Connection
Okizoo

About Rinpa Eshidan
“Rinpa” is a word created by the founders of the group meaning “to bring people together, while “Eshidan” essentially means “art crew.” The Rinpa Eshidan is a team of artists brought together by a common creative expression.

In October of 2006, Rinpa Eshidan’s crew’s core members Noiz-Davi, Daisuke Yamamoto, D.H. Rosen, Akari Sasai and Xola gathered to create “Room,” the first Rinpa Eshidan video to include 3-dimensional work created in the group’s trademark art-in-process style. The group’s main activities are performing in live-art events and creating videos of art in action. Instead of focusing on the finished project, they believe the process of creation itself is where art comes to life and their videos aim to engage their audience in that process.

At around the same time the group posted their first videos on YouTube and the response was phenomenal. Within a few weeks the now-famous “One Week of Artwork” earned over a million hits and became one of the most heavily blogged art videos of all time.

In 2007 Rinpa Eshidan’s newfound internet fame led to several invitations to perform both domestically and internationally. Over the past year and a half the crew could be seen creating live art in clubs and art spaces all over Tokyo, and they also took on several commercial projects including the creation of commercial films for Tsutaya, KDDI America, and the opening film for the extremely popular NHK program “Salary Man Neo.”

In September of last year they were invited to do a 3-day residency in China at the world-renowned Dangdai International Arts Festival in Beijing’s famous 798 art district. Rinpa Eshidan closed this monumental year with a performance at Kanazawa’s newly developed Geijutsu Mura art center.

About artist & concept:

1. Tomoko Matsui (niko): drawing, painting
Graphic designer and illustrator.
I was born in Osaka, Japan in 1981. After traveling the world as a backpacker, I became interested in the South East Asian subcultures, which I have found to be quite unique and different from the more well-known European, American and Japanese subcultures. In 2005, after graduating with a degree in graphic design from Kanazawa College of Art, I decided to move to the hottest Asian city of Bangkok. niko is the girl, me and the name of my world.

Concept: CITY GIRLS
Bangkok, the city I am in loving with.
Bangkok, the city which is flooded with tempting and trashy something.
This is the place where CITY GIRL can be excited and depressed, falling love and getting hurt. Where, over and over again, with feeling lonely, want to cry out, want to run away, but then can get as much, or rather much more.
Bangkok is the one for them like a Big Boyfriend that gives hard time occasionally, but never cheats, and always encourages to be what they want to be.

2. Tunnicha Tangkawattanakul: installation
A fresh graduate from the class of 2007, Faculty of Fine & Applied Arts, Textile Design, Thammasart University.

Concept: The Pulp of Mushroom
The world is consisted of the variety of lives. What one sees as a physical beauty, can be extremely vicious from inside. Through these mushrooms, I tried to imitate the multitude of things in our society, especially stressful competition, materialism, and capitalism.

3. Thanistha Nuntapojn: print (etching & silkscreen)
A junior at Department of Painting, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and  Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University

Concept: Building
My inspiration for this print series came from observing the lives and living in the city. Massive demands for shelters have led to the mega constructions which badly effect our environment. In my fantasy, I believe that in the near future, human would be able to develop shelters and buildings that can continually self-construct to serve our never ending needed.

4. Sirima  Sriraksa: print (etching & silkscreen)
A junior at Department of Painting, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and  Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University

Concept: My land of bliss
I see myself as a flower that my mother planted back at my hometown. These prints reflect my yearning for life at home after years living in the city.

5. Chonticha  Promduang: print (etching & silkscreen)
A junior at Department of Painting, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and  Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University

Concept: Mushrooming
I see a mushroom as a symbol of growth. Houses that have grown from mushroom are filled with love and bond, which every family should have had.

6. Suwimon Jaroensuk: mixed media
A junior at Department of Painting, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and  Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University

Concept:
Nothing lasts forever.

C(IT)Y#7: Desire beyond a Thin Red Line by by Rewat Roopsri and Kampanart Sangson, April 21 – May 3, 2008

June 11, 2008

ArtGorillas ArtGallery is proud to present a two person exhibition by Rewat Roopsri and Kampanart Sangson.
The exhibition will be featuring an exciting collection of oil, acrylic paintings and sketches from both talents with vividly detailed subjects and environments of remarkable atmosphere. Through their repetition of visual motifs about their liveihood in the C(IT)Y, the connection is left for the viewer to decipher.
Both talents are fresh graduates from Department of Painting, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and  Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University this year.
Show duration: April 21 – May 3, 2008
Opening Reception: Monday, April 21, 2008, 7 p.m. onwards at the gallery.
Rewat Roopsri’s Concept: Beyond a Thin Red Line
I believe that our life is a matter of fate and destiny. It is like we are playing a game where we barely know when exactly the game will be over. Therefore, we should treat ourselves in an appropriate way, as well as value everyday of the rest of our life. Nonetheless, living with care, awareness, and consciousness.

Kampanart Sangson’s Concept: Desire and Illusive Objects
I am often allured by the aesthetic values of objects, and wish I could own them because I can feel the hope and dynamic power for my life through the design of those appealing things.
However, as I have been taught, my moral conscience about sufficiency always tells me not to cling to those objects. It always make me feel guilty for my appreciation and desire for possessing ones. Through these paintings, I was trying to unveil how sufficient life and hope are intriguingly overlapped in a material world.
